Black Christmas came out in 2006, and was a remake of the 1974 classic. Fifteen years ago, Billy Lenz (played by Robert Mann) murdered his family and was institutionalized. He escapes and goes home. His childhood home is now a sorority house. It doesn't take long before bodies start dropping, making for a bloody Christmas holiday. There are some pretty gruesome kills in this movie (a couple of them even making me want to throw up). The acting is generally pretty solid, from the main characters anyways. Then again, I feel like that should be expected when you have legit scream queens like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Katie Cassidy. A lot of the minor actors feel really cheesy when they deliver their lines. Nowhere do I feel this is better exemplified than the asylum scene near the beginning of the movie. My favorite is the guy who says they feed Billy chicken because that's the closest to how his mother used to taste. It's incredibly stupid, and the guy delivering the line has this bug-eyed look on his face. Those two things meshed together are amazing. I've mentioned that some of the kills in this movie are pretty gruesome, but there's actually some creativity to them too. I will warn that if you have a pretty weak stomach, this might not be the movie for you. For example, one girl gets a head cut in half with an ice skate. This death is ridiculous, amazing, and stupid all at once to me. The question you have ask is: Is this a good movie? The short answer is: no, it isn't. I am a fan of horror movies (especially slasher films), and this one hits just that right balance of being cheesy, gory, and fun. It's a perfect guilty pleasure for fans of off-kilter Christmas movies
